transformer hook up guide

About me:
I have a Transformer that unfortunately no longer has the instructions not sure if any ever came with it. It came with a set I bought from a lady quite a few years ago and they were not in the transformer box. My question is, can someone tell me about the posts across the top. I'm assuming the U post is the common, the A post says 5 volts and it looks like the B post is transformer hook up guide 5 volts, the C post is 11 volts, or do I have that totally backwards. Could it be that the C post is the Common and you use a combination of posts U, A and B for different voltages.

Lionel transformers for O gauge model railroads require a complex set of connections for proper setup, posing a challenge for O gauge enthusiasts. Specifically, the KW transformer provided by Lionel can be very confusing, as it is capable of providing power to two separate track circuits, complicating setup. Despite the complexity, the KW transformer can be very useful in variety of situations if properly connected to the track, making it worthwhile for you to utilize its uniqe setup. Attach track clips onto each of two separate track circuits one clip per track. Slide the clip underneath the track rails, center the rails over the transformer hook up guide springs, and press down on the track firmly to snap it onto the clip. Use the gauge on the side of the strippers to locate the proper slot with which to strip the wires.

The primary of a current transformer typically has only one turn. In most cases, the primary of a current transformer is a single wire or busbar ,and the secondary is wound on a laminated magnetic core, placed around the conductor in which the current needs to be measured, as illustrated in figure 1. If primary current exists and the secondary circuit of a CT is closed, the winding builds and maintains a counter or back EMF to the primary magnetizing force. Should the secondary be opened with current in the primary, the counter EMF is removed; and the primary magnetizing force builds up an extremely high voltage in the secondary, which is dangerous to personnel and can destroy the current transformer. Current transformers are used with ammeters, wattmeters, powerfactor meters, watt-hour meters, compensators, protective and regulating relays, and trip coils of circuit breakers. One CT can be used to operate several instruments, provided the combined loads of the instruments do not exceed that for which the CT is rated.
More about transformer hook up guide:
Lionel transformer operation is simplified for children over 8 years of age to enjoy. The makers of Lionel trains recommend that an adult perform the wiring and track connection to install the transformer. Periodic parental inspection of the train, track, transformer, wires and connections is also advised for safety and continued service. The Lionel instruction manuals provide illustrated guidelines for installation and occasional inspection. Directions for use with Lionel trains and railroad layouts are also outlined. Unplug the Lionel transformer while making all track and accessory connections. Select the appropriate gauge wire for connecting the transformer to the track. Use 18 gauge wire for a small or average size layout, 16 gauge wire for an extensive transformer hook up guide layout.

On the secondary side low voltage taps of the transformer, each circuit has its own magnetic circuit breaker toggle switch that is connected to a Common Tap marked with a label, "COM". These Common Taps can accommodate up to W 25A. The exception to that is when the transformer capacity is less than W; in that case, the capacity will be equal transformer hook up guide the transformer capacity. Generally, it is a good practice to connect each of your home run lines directly to the transformer, spreading them evenly among the available commons. Ideally, if two or more home run wires share a voltage tap, then connect them to the same common. The home run cable e. One wire gets connected to the Common Terminal labeled "COM"the other wire connects to a Voltage Terminal the colored labels that say 12, 13, 14, etc.

Low-voltage transformers. All of Eaton's transformers are specifically designed to meet Federal Energy Efficiency requirements for voltage transformation as near as practically possible to the load, for economy and distribution of power.
